You
will have heard of the drought affecting many parts of East Africa. It
is at its worst in the northern parts of Kenya and Uganda.
SPICMA is focusing on the
Catholic Diocese of Kotido in Karamoja, Uganda.
Although
the World Food
Programme
is bringing in relief food on a regular basis, there are a lot
vulnerable people – the old and infirm; and mothers with small
children. They often miss out when families are registered, and find
it difficult to struggle for the food when it eventually arrives.
The
Diocese of Kotido has five medical units which cover the three Districts
of Kotido, Kaabong, and Abim. It is to them that we intend to direct
monetary help so that they can purchase food for these vulnerable
people. They won’t be eating turkey and Christmas Pudding, etc. The
diet will be simple enough – maize flour, kidney beans, milk powder, and
cooking oil. With your help, however, they will not be hungry at
Christmas.
