In January 4th 2005, SPICMA was asked
to use its expertise by supplying urgent medical aid to help the people
of Sri Lanka in their crisis. Just three days later, a plane left
Heathrow for Colombo. It was carrying the requested medicines and
medical equipment consisting of 87 boxes and pallets. This was interim
medical assistance to help the Sri Lankan people until the larger NGO’s
and government agencies got their formal emergency aid packages up and
running.
Thank you for responding so generously to our appeal. Your contributions
paid not only for the much needed assistance, but it also enabled us to
send further emergency aid to the Jesuit Fathers working in some of the
most badly affected areas of Sri Lanka; namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa
and Galle.
On the recommendation of Mill Hill Fathers, the balance of money we
received from the appeal has been sent to the Vicar General of the India
Missionary Society. This order is working in the Indian provinces of
Tamil Nadu and Kerela which have been badly affected by the Tsunami.
These people were and still are in desperate need of our help.
We have now used all of the monies received from our appeal. None of the
money we received was used for expenses it all went directly to the
intended recipients. |
