The centre was completed at Easter time in 2007 and became operational shortly thereafter.

The total cost was R87,000.00 of which R30,000.00 was contributed by SPICMA. The remainder of the cost was from local contributions and other donors. At the moment the centre cares for about 50 children, the majority being orphans and the remainder considered to be vulnerable children.

The operation is run by mothers from the community on a voluntary basis but occasionally, whenever funds become available,  they are given stipends in recognition of the commitment they have made.

The community and other organisations provide on-going support with regular food donations.
